Troop 57 April Cycling 2014

posted Mar 26, 2014, 5:36 PM by Unknown user

On Saturday, April 19, we have two great bike rides planned.  We’ll take CalTrain up to San Francisco, and then take the Embarc
adero along the bay to the Golden Gate Bridge.  Those on the 25-mile ride will cross the bridge and head north to Mill Valley before looping around the Tiburon peninsula to the ferry terminal for the boat ride back to SF.  We’ll take CalTrain back to Palo Alto.  A draft version of the 25-mile route is

The 50-mile ride is similar, but harder.  We’ll cross the Golden Gate Bridge and then head due west with a tough but spectacular 700-foot climb up Conzelman Road along the Marin headlands (basically, up the side of the mountain behind the bridge in the picture above).  The views of the Golden Gate Bridge will be amazing.  From there, we’ll head down to Rodeo Lagoon, and then back to Sausalito.  From there, we head north through Mill Valley to San Rafael, before looping back around the Tiburon peninsula on the well-named Paradise Rd.  A draft version of the route is here.  The climb on Conzelman is the hardest climb I’ve seen Troop 57 do, but if you’ve had some good rides with the Troop, and you have a light bike (as in, not a mountain bike) with some functioning, low gears, you could do it.  We will require a bike and gear check of all participants prior to the day of the ride to make sure that you are indeed prepared.  Lack of preparedness of any single scout will cause us all to miss the boat, quite literally.

If you’re interested in either ride, sign up at http://bit.ly/T57_Golden_Gate_ride.  If you have questions, email Gordon Craig at roycraig@pacbell.net.  Starting time and location will be emailed to riders who sign up.
