Troop 57 Spring Cycling Outing (March 17 & April 20)

On Sunday, March 17, we’ll do a short (but challenging) 18-mile loop that will take us to a local historical landmark for lunch. Believe it or not, the Alpine Inn in Portola Valley (a.k.a. Zott’s) was the site of the first ever email. (I’m sure the email was about a T57 outing.) The point of this ride is not just to enjoy a tasty burger in a nice setting, but also to test your leg on some nearby hills, so that you’ll know if you’re ready for April’s big ride. You should consider it as a qualifying ride for the Golden Gate ride.

On Saturday, April 20, we’ll get up early and take CalTrain, with our bikes, to San Francisco. From there, we will ride past AT&T Park, along the Embarcadero, over the Golden Gate Bridge, and then home to Palo Alto via Golden Gate Park and Crystal Springs. At 55 miles, this ride isn’t easy, but it’s quite doable, and something you’ll always remember. You will need a road bike, and 1st and 2nd year scouts who want to do this ride should also do the March ride, just to get a taste of climbing up some hills.
